Hello David, My father was a close friend of Tom Page in Gateshead Police. I am his son, also Harry. I have just seen your comments this am, and although somewhat late, I hope that we may correspond soon. I do remember when you went to Reading although I would have been about 13 yrs old at that time.

Does anyone remember Tony Topham who the last I knew of him was a seargent in Swinbourne St . He was a good friend of my family when we lived inGateshead.

Brett. Thomas Redmayne was born 11.3.1893 at Newcastle upon Tyne. When he applied for the police service he was a single man employed as a labourer with Newcastle Corporation. He lived at 18 Blyth Street, Newcastle upon Tyne. Appointed Gateshead Borough Police 31.8.1914 and sworn in on 26.12.1914, lived 28 Havelock Terrace, Gateshead. On 1.5.1915 he resigned to join HMF and served as a sergeant with the Army Service Corps (Remounts), he was re-appointed to the police on 27.1.1919 living at 148 Cannon Street, Gateshead. Retired on medical pension 25.1.1944. Can you add to this, do you have a photograph of him?

Greeting from Canada! I stumbled upon this site by accident when I conducted a Google search on the Gateshead Police. . My grandfather, Thomas Redmayne, joined the Gateshead Police back in 1914. I am interested in finding out a little more about him as he died long before I was born. Thank you for all your work on the site. I will be checking in regularly for updates and other postings.
